Dear Danko: Your Weed Growing Questions, Answered

Dear Danko was the reader question and answer column I wrote for High Times from 2002 until April 2020. Readers sent in their growing problems and I answered the ones that would help the most people. This page is the column revived, with one change: the answers are published here as pages, where anyone with the same problem can find them.

What Dear Danko is

A reader asks a question about growing weed. I answer it in plain language, with the numbers you need to act on it. That was the column in the magazine, and it is the column here. The archive of answers builds below this introduction, one page per question, so the answer to your problem may already be written. Search the section before you write in; it can save you a week.

How to ask Danny Danko a question

Use the form at the bottom of this page. Write the question the way you would tell a friend who grows: what you are growing in, what you feed, what the lights are, what the temperature and humidity read, and what changed before the problem started. If it is a plant problem, describe the leaves carefully: which leaves, which part of the leaf, what color, and how fast it is spreading. The plant problems section shows you what to look for so you can describe it.

A question with numbers gets answered. A question that says "my plant looks bad, what do I do?" cannot be.

What kinds of questions get answered

Anything about growing: germination, lighting, feeding, environment, training, pests, harvest, drying and curing. Questions that many growers share get answered first, because one answer then helps thousands of people. Questions about a specific product, a legal situation or a medical condition do not get answered here. I am not a lawyer or a doctor, and I do not review products. Questions already covered by a chapter in the grow guide get a short reply pointing to the chapter.

Every answer becomes a page in this section, with the question, the answer and links to the chapters that go deeper. Questions run as "a reader" unless you ask to be named.

For everything that is not a grow question, meaning press, booking and corrections, use the contact page.

Cultivation is for adults where it is legal.

Ask Danny a question

Questions become Dear Danko pages. Include what you grow in, your light and the week of flower.
