Danny Danko is a cannabis cultivation writer, editor and photographer who has grown cannabis, indoors and out, for well over twenty years. Born Daniel Vinkovetsky in Leningrad on 4 July 1972, he spent eighteen years at High Times, from 2002 to 2020, rising to Senior Cultivation Editor in 2007. There he wrote the grow features and the Dear Danko reader column, personally selected the annual Top 10 Strains of the Year from 2005 to 2018, founded the High Times Seed Bank Hall of Fame in 2007 and judged more Cannabis Cups than anyone else on the planet. He wrote Cannabis: A Beginner's Guide to Growing Marijuana (Hampton Roads, 2018, foreword by Jorge Cervantes) and The Official High Times Field Guide to Marijuana Strains (High Times Books, 2011). He hosted Free Weed from Danny Danko for High Times from 2011 to 2018 and co-founded the Grow Bud Yourself podcast with Mike Gianakos in 2020. He was Senior Editor of Northeast Leaf magazine from 2020 to 2023, is Cultivation Section Coordinator for CHAMPS Trade Shows and Director of Cannabis Education at Conbud Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.
